Waxing
How To Prepare For Your Wax
Be sure your hair is long enough, it should be at least 1/4 - 1/2 inches long, about the size of a grain of rice, at least two weeks of hair growth after the last time you shaved. Do not trim your hair! To avoid trimming too short, do not trim on your own. If your hair is long, your esthetician can trim during your appointment.
Lightly exfoliate your skin a few days before for a smoother waxing experience.
Arrive to your appointment with clean skin, and no lotions or oils.
Dress in loose, breathable clothing for your appointment.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol before your appointment as they can make your skin more sensitive.
Consider taking Ibuprofen or Advil 30min-1hr before your appointment to help minimize pain.
Be sure you have not used any retinoids, skincare for acne like salicylic acid or glycolic acid, AHA’s/BHA’s, and acne medications on the areas you are waxing for at least one week. If you are on Accutane or have been within the past 6 months you should not wax.
What to do after your wax
appointment
For 24-48 hours after
-
Keep the area clean, avoid heavy exercise that can increase perspiration and chaffing.
-
Wear loose fitting clothing, no tight underwear or pants.
-
Avoid pools, hot tubs, saunas, hot showers, tanning, and sexual activities.
After waxing for the first 24-48 hours, your follicles are exposed and susceptible to bacteria that can cause ingrown hairs or other infections. If you experience irritation or have any questions always contact your esthetician.
A week after your wax
Lightly exfoliate with a loofah or a body scrub 2-3 times a week. Apply ingrown hair serums. Do not shave in between your appointments! Rebook your appointment ahead of time to ensure your results are well maintained.
Waxing FAQ's
Why Should You Wax? Waxing is one of the best options when it comes to temporary hair removal. It is more effective than shaving because it extracts the hair from the root, resulting in smoother skin for a longer time, and with regular waxing your hair will become finer and grow slower.
Does Waxing Hurt? Pain levels differ from person to person, depending on genetics and pain tolerance. With a trained and experienced professional, waxing can be quick and efficient. Overtime and with regular waxing pain can lessen with each session.
How Long Does My Hair Need To Be? Your hair should be 1/4-1/2 inches long, about the size of a grain of rice, at least two weeks of hair growth from the last time you shaved or trimmed. If you think your hair is long do not trim, if needed your esthetician will trim during your appointment.
How Long Will It Last? Usually results will last from 3-6 weeks, however it can vary from person to person depending on genetics and other factors. Hair grows in cycles so some hairs may grow back sooner than others. For first time waxers, hair can grow back sooner depending on where you are in your hair growth cycle.
Is It Safe For Sensitive Skin? Yes, if done with a skilled esthetician, people with sensitive skin can get waxed regularly with great results. It is still important to listen to and observe your own skin and how it reacts after waxing. Always make sure you follow pre and post care tips and speak to your esthetician about any concerns you may have.
What Kind Of Wax Do You Use? We use professional and natural top-quality beeswax, which means no synthetic ingredients while offering natural cleansing and moisturizing properties. We also offer sugar waxing which is a natural method of hair removal using a paste that is made of only three ingredients: sugar, lemon, and water.
Who Should Not Be Waxed? Anyone who currently takes Accutane or has taken it within the past 6 months. Anyone with a sunburn in areas they wish to wax. Anyone who has had a chemical peel within the past 7 days. Anyone who has used any type of Retinol within the past 7 days. Anyone with active acne or herpes outbreaks in areas they wish to wax. Any area of the skin that may show signs of trauma like open acne lesions, varicose veins, eczema, psoriasis or any type of dermatitis.
How Old Do You Have To Be? For any facial waxing we prefer a minimum age of 13. For other body waxing minimum age of 15, and for Brazilian/Bikini or intimate areas minimum age of 18, or with parent consent.
Can I Wax While Pregnant? Yes, waxing is generally safe during pregnancy. However it is important to check with your doctor to make sure it is safe for you specifically. It’s also important to be aware of skin sensitivities, pregnancy hormones and increased blood flow to the vagina can make your skin more sensitive making waxing more uncomfortable than usual. If you are two months or closer to your due date it is recommended you approve with your doctor first.
What Is The Difference Between A Bikini Wax And A Brazilian Wax? A bikini wax removes hair from the area around the underwear line, in simple terms any hair that may be visible outside the underwear or bathing suit line. A Brazilian wax removes hair from all or most of the pubic region, including the anus if desired. Clients can choose to remove all hair or leave a small strip or triangle in the front.
Can I Wax On My Period? Yes, waxing during your menstrual cycle is possible as long as you are hygienically present and wear a tampon. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the body is more sensitive while menstruating due to changes in hormones therefore waxing can be more uncomfortable during this time. Be sure to speak to your esthetician before your service.
Sugaring Guide
What is sugaring?
Sugaring is an ancient waxing technique dating back to 1900 BC in ancient Egypt. The sugar paste uses an all natural mixture of sugar lemon and water, making it gentle enough for use on sensitive skin. Results typically last around 3-6 weeks.
What is the difference between sugaring and waxing?
Waxing and Sugaring both have great advantages that can benefit each person differently.
As far as application to the skin, wax is always applied at a warmer temperature with application sticks in the direction of the hair growth and once hardened, it is removed in the opposite direction.
Sugar is applied against the hair growth and removed in the direction of hair growth, this method proves better for hair that is more prone to breakage. Sugar is slightly warmed and there are two main methods of removal, the ball method where only one ball of sugar paste is used for one area, and the strip method, where sugar is applied thinly and removed with a strip of muslim.
What method of waxing should I choose?
Everyone’s skin and hair type is different, therefore some people may do better with regular wax while others do better with sugaring. We always recommend speaking to your esthetician about any questions you may have regarding types of waxes. A good option is to book for a regular wax appointment and then speak to your esthetician before your service about sugaring and if it will be the right fit for you.
